There are some interesting reports arriving in a busy Football Transfer Tavern this evening.
Today’s copy of The Express suggests that Chelsea and Manchester City will vie to land possible free agent Blaise Matuidi if he decides not to sign a new deal with Paris Saint-Germain.
The 26-year-old’s current contract at the Parc Des Princes finished in the summer, and French reports indicate that both Chelsea and City will attempt to move for Matuidi if he decides to depart the Ligue 1 champions.
The French international could now sign a pre-contract agreement to move to the Premier League in January as negotiations with the French champions continue to stall over a salary increase.
And, if Matuidi does not get the pay rise he is seeking, PSG could be forced to agree to sell him in a cut-price deal in January or risk losing him for nothing in the summer.
Matuidi, who left Saint-Etienne for PSG back in 2011, is highly rated in his home county and both Chelsea and City are desperate to land the classy midfield man if an agreement cannot be reached in the French capital.
Who needs Matuidi more? Chelsea or Manchester City? Let us know your thoughts below.
