The Daily Star are certainly causing a stir here in the Football Transfer Tavern after it was revealed that both Chelsea and Manchester City are considering battling it out for Blaise Matuidi.
The player is currently trying – and failing – to negotiate a new contract with current club Paris Saint-Germain.
His failure to agree to a new deal with Laurent Blanc’s men has promoted a host of speculation over his future, not to mention the race to secure his signature.
Not only would the lucky side be landing a top quality player, but as our landlord reminds us, they would also be landing one heck of a bargain as well.
The French star would be available to discuss possible pre-contract terms in the New Year, and would be of course available on a free in the summer.
A move away is not the end of the world, but the player would prefer to agree a new five-year deal with his current side. He spoke to L’Equipe and claimed: “I am really at ease at PSG.
“My first wish would be to stay. But you can wish for something and sometimes it doesn’t happen.
“The club has a special place in my heart, but anything can happen in a career.”
Clearly a move away is still a possibility, and two of the heavyweights of the English game are willing to battle it out to attract the player. Both Jose Mourinho and Manuel Pellegrini are big fans and will make their offers come the turn of the year.
Will Matuidi make a move to the Premier League? Let us know your thoughts below.
