Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are preparing themselves for a mass exodus this summer, amid plans of a huge overhaul, and one midfielder is considering an interesting proposition.
The London Evening Standard state Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel has become the latest target for the super-rich Chinese league and the player himself is considering the possibility of a switch to the Far East this summer.
With Chelsea eyeing new midfield recruits in the close season, Mikel may find himself surplus to requirements ahead of the new campaign after spending a decade in west London.
The Blues are prepared to offer him an extension on his current deal, which expires next summer, but with three Chinese clubs eyeing a move for the Nigerian ace he elect to follow former team-mate Ramires to the emerging prospect of Chinese football.
China made waves in the mid-season window as Ramires moved to the league for £25m, along with the likes of Atletico Madrid’s Jackson Martinez and Shakhtar Donetsk’s Alex Teixeira.
That seems to only be the beginning of China’s activity on the transfer market, with the growing popularity of football in the nation presenting an interesting prospect.
