We at the Transfer Tavern were interested to read Frank Lampard openly speaking about the possibility of Chelsea signing Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney this summer, as reported by the Daily Telegraph.
Lampard has seen that the Blues are clearly interested in signing the striker and he would welcome his England team mate in West London should the deal go through.
Manchester United have been adamant all summer long that Rooney is not for sale, but the 27 year old is still hoping to push through a move to Chelsea, or even Arsenal, before the window closes in just over two weeks’ time.
The England hit-man came off the bench to help United seal a comfortable opening day victory over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium, but his mannerisms and lack of interaction with his team mates were clear to see.
David Moyes is clearly ready to put the feud behind him and give Rooney the chance to do his talking on the pitch but the striker seems less confident of that working out and United would be brave to turn down a £40million for a striker who doesn’t want to play.
Selling one of their best players to a title rival would surely not be the wisest thing to do though.
“I think Chelsea have made their interest known. That’s a decision for them and Wayne to come to,” Lampard said.
“Yes Jose does (get his own way), I think that has shown, but when you’re talking about us here we’ve got a big squad, we’ve got three or four strikers already.”
