It has been a quiet summer so far for the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, but business could be about to pick up…
According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have agreed a fee with Monaco for the transfer of Tiemoue Bakayoko – with the French midfielder finally beginning to edge closer to a move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for the Frenchman for several months, but in recent weeks there appears to have been little progress – and so this report has come as a huge boost for the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern.
The Blues have been comparably quiet this summer when contrasted with a few of their Premier League rivals who have been investing pretty heavily already. Having bagged deals for Willy Caballero and Antonio Rudiger so far, Antonio Conte is finally looking to be getting the summer underway, and a move for Tiemoue Bakayoko only serves to reinforce that.
In truth, the Frenchman is exactly the sort of player that Chelsea need this summer. N’Golo Kante had a stellar year in blue last season, but Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic failed to reach his level – and so improvement was clearly needed in the role.
Bakayoko, meanwhile, enjoyed a stellar season at Monaco – providing vital quality as the French outfit stormed to the Ligue 1 title.
