Chelsea must act promptly, or they risk facing undesired consequences

The Chelsea supporters in the Transfer Tavern are mindful of the depletion that their side has endured this transfer window.

An issue that has been addressed on countless occasions during the duration of the summer period has been Antonio Conte’s yearning desire to enhance squad depth, and augment the options that he has at his disposal.

It seems that the Champions have authenticated the departure of several prominent first-team members without adequately replacing them, and with Diego Costa’s nigh-on inevitable departure brewing on the horizon, the Blues are stuck in a precarious situation.

Regarding the additions made this summer, Morata, Rudiger and Bakayoko are perceived to be stellar additions that will provide the Italian with a younger and more exuberant starting eleven.

Albeit, they are now members of a squad that flaunt insufficient numbers to maintain a strong and sustained quest for success on all four fronts this season. While considering that Fabregas and Cahill are suspended following their red cards, the need for reinforcements has reached an unparalleled height, Chelsea’s board must now act.

While many will rightly refer to the Pensioners’ infamous loan army as a source of providing greater depth, the reality of their strategy is that profit is prioritised over player progression.

It is a productive method that ensures that the club act in accordance with FFP.

Accordingly, the only way that Conte’s ambitions will be realised is if the Blues exercised their vast financial power.

Chelsea have spent more than a £100m this window, yet their net spend is one of the lowest in the league – even Huddersfield have a bigger net spend than the Premier League champions.

The areas in which the Blues must strengthen is strikingly apparent; they require cover in both wing-back positions, they need a fourth central midfielder and a third striker.

In addition to this, it is believed that Conte is targeting a move for another central defender.

Whoever Chelsea opts to sign they must do so with haste, or else they risk derailing their hopes of success this season.
