The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern think that their side simply must start using their loan army next season. The Blues have some of the most talented young players in the world on their books, and they’re being wasted away from the club – especially given Chelsea’s struggles.
Fortunately, the World Cup has brought a few players into full view, and that’s certainly the case for Kenneth Omuero.
Omuero, who is representing Nigeria at the tournament, has been a surprise package for many, but those that have watched him over the years shouldn’t be surprised.
He’s been a wall at the back for the Super Eagles, displaying brilliant tackling, aerial presence and movement – and he’s played a key role as Nigeria have remained in contention in the tournament.
Among players years older than him and with far more prominence, Omuero has been a crucial component of the team, and that’s a testament to his quality. At present (Monday, 25th June), he’s got an average rating of 8.19 according to WhoScored.com, and that shows just how good he has been.
At present, Chelsea are lacking defensive depth. The likes of Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Andreas Christensen have all had moments of poor form in the last year, and that’s something that the Chelsea manager must consider.
Omuero, meanwhile, has gone about his job quietly and consistently – and that’s the sort of personality that Chelsea need at the back. He’s unassuming and quiet, but his performances on the field speak volumes.
Chelsea could go and spend millions on another big name player, or they could use what they’ve already got – and Omuero certainly looks good enough to make an impact.
