So where is the new angle on this one then? It’s been done to death but it appears you can’t get enough of it. Well today we have actual concrete developments…well sort of. Neymar can’t avoid the spotlight much like Katie Price turning up for the opening of an envelope, you can’t keep him out of the transfer gossip pages.
Good news today though, because it appears that the transfer wheels are finally in motion, after months of speculation and rumour we now believe that Chelsea have made a formal approach for the player.
The ‘new Pele’ or ‘new Robinho’ whichever you prefer has been a prodigious talent in South America for a while and has been labelled the saviour of Brazilian football on more than one occasion…how many times have we heard that? In only his second season with Santos he already has a lot of expectations on his shoulders.
The player has stated in the past that he has no intention of leaving his current club any time soon, but it is clear to all of us that it will happen sooner rather than later. Whether he has the mental strength to guide his way to a long and fruitful career remains to be seen, the 19 year old has already been in trouble on more than one occasion for various problems.
The skillful attacking talent has been linked with a host of clubs, including: Real Madrid, Juventus, Manchester United, Manchester City, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Chelsea. The Stamford Bridge side made a formal approach last Summer offering around £23million, but the player rejected the move saying:
“The final decision always rests with the player….My father always will want what is best for me. I talked to him and decided to stay.”.
Whether he will feel the same way this Summer remains to be seen, he won’t stay in Brazil forever and after coming so close to leaving last year many people believe this is the transfer window in which he will finally move. The formal approach from Chelsea is £25million with Santos wanting £30million, so there may be some negotiations going on before a deal is done. We will now have to wait and see whether this brings other parties to the table, and if so who they may be.
Turin based Juventus have also been long term admirers of the forward, whether it would be an attractive proposition for the player is questionable, they are not the side they once were but former national coach Dunga believes that it would be the perfect place for the tricky striker, last year he told Gazzetta dello Sport:
“We must have patience with young people. But Juventus is a club that knows how important talent management is….Neymar is very young but he has already started to make his mark with the national team.”.
Personally I am just glad that a bid has been made, and hopefully that this one is sorted without too much hassle this Summer, it has been dragging on for long enough. He would be a great asset to Chelsea and I cannot see many sides competing with them financially, Neymar may prefer a move to Italy, but can he resist the financial pull of Chelsea? We will find out.
