There’s a few raised voices in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening.
This is due to Metro claiming that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has no plans to add a new striker to his side during the transfer window.
Chelsea punters remain hopeful that the former Real Madrid boss would be trying to strengthen his strikeforce with his existing front three forwards failing to find the net consistently, with just eight goals between them this term.
Despite this, Mourinho maintains that he has faith in his current strikers with Fernando Torres having scored in consecutive games for the Blues.
Jose said: “Fernando is calm. He knows we are not going into the market now.
“In the summer, normally a club like Chelsea is always trying to improve and get new players but he knows that we like him and support him and he knows there is no problem.
“Everyone needs strikers to score goals; the strikers are the goalscorers.
“If you have players in other positions who can score an important number of goals – better. If you have a Frank Lampard – better. If you have Eden Hazard – better. But the strikers are the ones that normally score the goals.”
The Blues have been strongly linked with a number of possible striking targets in the tavern, but it seems likely now that these will all have to wait until the summer.
A few names that have been rumoured to be interesting the Blues include Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, Porto’s Jackson Martinez and Atletico Madrid’s in-form forward Diego Costa.
Do Chelsea need a striker now or is Jose right to wait until the summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
