Chelsea offered striker swap deal from European giant

MartinezChelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern bracing themselves for a busy finale to the Transfer Tavern and they’re debating an intriguing report over a pitcher of our Saturday special.

The Sun state that European giants Atletico Madrid want to bring Diego Costa back to the Vicente Calderdon and have offered Jackson Martinez to the Blues in a player-exchange deal.

Costa set the Premier League alight in his first season at Stamford Bridge, winning the title, but struggled in the first-half of the season. However, since Guus Hiddink replaced Jose Mourinho, the Spaniard has refined some form.

Jackson Martinez, meanwhile, has struggled in the Spanish capital since moving across the continent from Porto. Despite that, he still remains a highly-rated player in the European game.

A transfer is unlikely to happen in the final days of January though, as both players would be ineligible to play for their new sides in the knockout stages of the Champions League, with the prestigious continental tournament returning in February.

Our landlord believes Chelsea wouldn’t agree to this deal anyway and that Martinez would not be a welcome fit at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea fans, would you swap Costa for Martinez? Let us know in the comments below!
