Chelsea on the verge of landing £13.6m-rated title winner

The Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are brimming with confidence ahead of a return to the Champions League in the new season, and reckon that with the right additions they could go all the way.

One key area in which manager Antonio Conte is looking to beef up his side is in centre-midfield. With that in mind, reports from RTL (via Metro) are claiming that Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko is in the capital to finalise his move to the Premier League champions.

The £13.6m-rated Frenchman, who played a vital role in helping the principality side win their first league title in 17 years last season, could be taking the place of Serbian Nemanja Matic, who is expected to head to join former manager Jose Mourinho at Manchester United upon Bakayoko’s arrival.

Our landlord has noted, however, that letting Matic leave should the deal go through would be counter-intuitive given that the idea is to add depth ahead of a return to European football this season.

Chelsea fans, we want to hear from you! How excited are you by the prospect of seeing Bakayoko in a blue shirt next season? Do you think his arrival will see Matic leave Stamford Bridge? Let us know in the comments below…
