Chelsea ordered to pay £75m to land long-term target

GriezmannChelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern thought their bad luck had run out but the one unfortunate punter walked under our decorators ladder, leading to the Blues drawing against West Brom and now facing transfer disappointment.

The Daily Express state that Atletico Madrid are looking to raise Antoine Griezmann’s release clause to a whopping £75m, putting Chelsea’s hopes of landing the French international under real scrutiny.

Chelsea have had eyes on the player since his days at Real Sociedad and they hope their strong relationship with Atletico, which has resulted in deals for Thibaut Courtois and Diego Costa in the past, would increase their chances of landing the highly-rated forward.

However, Atletico are playing hardball and are determined not to lose their prized-asset, who is also attracting reported interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Any deal now seems off the cards though, particularly after FIFA announced that Atletico have been banned from making any signings in the next two windows after breaking rules regarding the capture of U18 players.

Our landlord believes that news has pretty much guaranteed Griezmann will remain in the Spanish capital until at least 2017.

Chelsea fans, is Griezmann the dream signing? Let us know in the comments below!
