Yesterday in the Football Transfer Tavern it was suggested that FC Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala has emerged a a prime transfer target for Chelsea.
But now we have further news about another possible signing for the Stamford Bridge club.
Today’s Metro report that Chelsea are now set to move for Marseille midfielder Giannelli Imbula as Jose Mourinhos prepares his transfer wishlist for the upcoming January transfer window.
Mourinho appears keen to add to his squad in the New Year and has now reportedly identified Imbula as one of the players he wants to see arriving in SW6.
The Blues improved on their start to the season with a 4-1 weekend victory over Cardiff City on Saturday as they keep the pace on league leaders Arsenal and the former Real Madrid boss knows in a highly competitive Premier League campaign it will be vital to strengthen his side.
Imbula, who only made the switch to Marseille from Guingamp last summer, has made an immediate impression at the Ligue 1 side and it is believed that he could be available for around £25 million.
The Belgian born midfielder was eligible to represent Congo through his parents but has now pledged his international allegiance to France after representing them at Under-21 level.
While centre back Mangala, who was also a target for David Moyes at Manchester United in the summer, remains high on Mourinho’s radar and the French international will also be valued at around £25 million by the Portuguese club as the Blues prepare a £50 million January bid for the duo.
Would Imbula represent a sound acquisition for the Blues? Let us know your thoughts below.
