Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for new recruits this month and they’re pleased to see their loaded owner has adopted a similar stance, as they discuss potential signings over a game of pontoon.
The Daily Star states Roman Abramovich is a big fan of Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez and is ready to make a £20m swoop for the Algerian, as they aim for recruits that can fend off the shock threat of relegation.
Mahrez has been a stand-out figure of Leicester’s surprise title push this season and Abramovich has put the African star at the top of his transfer list, identifying the Foxes man as a potential replacement for Eden Hazard- who is expected to leave.
Leicester are desperate not to lose Mahrez, and fellow forward Jamie Vardy, this month but they could be left helpless to fend off the bigger fish in the Premier League come the end of the season- and that’s a situation Chelsea want to take advantage of.
However, interest in Mahrez will be vast and Chelsea could find their chances dented significantly by the lack of Champions League football as other interested parties could offer the Algerian the chance to display his talents at the highest level.
Our landlord believes that Mahrez would be an ideal Hazard replacement but has backed the star to land himself a bigger move, potentially to Barcelona.
