Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we are keen to hear more from Metro who note that Jose Mourinho is being rather naughty playing mind games ahead of the massive clash with Manchester United on Monday night.
As we all know, Mourinho has been looking to land a forward all summer and has identified Rooney as the one he wants.
Despite being rebuffed by David Moyes and Manchester United on several occasions, it seems that Mourinho is up to his old tricks when it comes to press conferences.
After the narrow victory over Aston Villa yesterday evening, Mourinho spoke to the press and noted that: “We want to do something with Rooney.
“But we will be ethical and not interfere with Manchester United by bidding on him before we play them next week – the board agrees with me on this.”
As one of our punters points out, such a statement is fairly inflammatory in itself, and Mourinho may as well just make the bid now.
As was made abundantly clear yet again during the victory against Aston Villa, Chelsea are in dire need of a forward and simply have to bring someone of top quality in to the team.
Given Mourinho claims to have a plan A through to C, we have yet to see some significant movement by the Blues, and it seems that mind games are really the only thing Mourinho is currently concentrating on.
Will Chelsea’s third bid for Rooney be accepted or is this transfer pursuit destined for failure? Let us know your thoughts below.
