It has been a tough few weeks for the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern. After a strong start to the season, the wheels have really come off the wagon over the last few games, with losses against Crystal Palace and Man City inciting panic amongst the Blues in the Transfer Tavern. Whilst the likes of Man Utd and Man City are firing in the English top flight, the Blues are seriously struggling.
There is genuine optimism amongst fans that it’s simply just a blip, but that won’t stop the fear resonating amongst some Chelsea circles, and a recent report from the Times that details what could be behind Chelsea’s slumps will do them no favours. According to the Times, Chelsea players are said to be unhappy at Antonio Conte’s rigorous training regime at Chelsea, with the Italian continuing his high-intensity sessions despite the Blues’ increased fixture depth.
With so many games typically comes more rest days, but that is said to not be the case under Conte, and that is clearly giving rise to concern amongst the players. Beyond the simple nature of tiredness, this is also likely to have an mental impact – with the players’ free time becoming even more sparse.
This is certainly a big issue for the Blues, with team morale likely to be impacted. They’re clearly a group that is together and united, but is this the sign of a few cracks beginning to show at Stamford Bridge? With their poor form, every move is under the microscope, and this news is going to do vey little to calm the concerns over Antonio Conte’s long-term future.
Chelsea managers have often struggled to build long-term dynasties at the club, and unless Antonio Conte changes, it seems as though he could take a similar path.
Everything seems to happen so fast at Chelsea. Just like with Jose Mourinho, the fantastic highs of last season appear to have been forgotten, with the Chelsea players now instead concerned about the future.
It is a worry, and it will be important for Conte to not repeat the mistakes of the previous managers at Stamford Bridge. Big changes might be needed in that case, then.
