Martin Lipton from Mirror Football has arrived in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening with news that Chelsea are planning a £10 million bid for Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi.
New Blues boss Jose Mourinho is a long-term admirer of the Italian international but previous attempts to sign the 29-year-old have been in vein with the midfield general happy to remain at Roma where he has played his entire career.
Mourinho tried to sign him while at both Inter Milan and Real Madrid while former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini was also a big fan.
However Lipton suggests that the Portuguese manager wants to take advantage of De Rossi’s unhappiness at the Stadio Olimpico after he fell out with the hierarchy at the club and that could see the Italian finally leaving his boyhood club for the Premier League.
Chelsea are due to hold talks with Roma next week about a potential loan deal for youngster Wallace and the Blues will use this as an opportunity to thrash out a deal for De Rossi with £10 million thought to be enough to lure him away from Serie A.
We have our doubts here in the Football Transfer Tavern as De Rossi has always stated that he wants to play out his whole career with the club he loves.
Will it prove third time lucky for Jose Mourinho in his chase for De Rossi? Rate this rumour below.
