Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has surprised the Transfer Tavern by preparing a final bid of £40million for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, according to the Sunday People.
The Blues have made no secret of their intentions to bring the England striker to Stamford Bridge but United boss David Moyes is adamant that the forward will not be sold.
Despite transfer requests and attempts to push through a move away from the club, Moyes was happy to give Rooney a run out against Swansea last night where he 27 year old set up two goals to round off the perfect start to the season for the Red Devils.
Rooney will make one last plea to Moyes to allow him to leave and it seems Chelsea will coincide that with their biggest bid to date in order to make the deal happen before the transfer window closes.
However, if United knock back the final £40million sum then the Blues will switch their target to Borussia Dortmund forward Robert Lewandowski who will be available for less than the price of Rooney.
The Polish hitman was told he will not be joining rivals Bayern Munich this summer by Dortmund but if a big money from abroad came in then the German club would consider it.
Jose Mourinho is desperate to add another striker to his squad after the poor form of Fernando Torres and Demba Ba last season but the Portuguese boss is running out of time with the window set to slam shut in just over two weeks’ time.
