Punters here in the Football Transfer Tavern do not look shocked in the slightest at the latest claim coming from the Daily Mail.
It would not be deadline day without Chelsea being linked with yet another player and now it seems that the club could well be set for one more addition.
Not having been exactly quiet in the window thus far, Jose Mourinho was thought to be keen on bringing in another forward to Stamford Bridge.
However, it is another player entirely who has been linked with a last gasp move – Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, who of course was brought by Mourinho during his time at Los Blancos, and an ever present in the team.
Under Ancelotti, Khedira’s place has been slightly more in question and given Mourinho no longer rates John Obi Mikel and has seen Ramires perform, shall we say, below par since his second coming at the club, to make a move for defensive midfielder Khedira makes sense.
Real Madrid are of course preparing for the ramifications of their summer spending and know that they cannot keep such a big squad of top players all happy on the bench.
Arsenal look like the big winners here having all but landed Mesut Ozil, but Mourinho is monitoring the situation and would be more than willing to swoop for Khedira should the chance arise later on today.
