With the Blues enduring a woeful start to the campaign, sitting 16th in the Premier League table with just eight points, The Independent states the board will back Jose Mourinho fully in the transfer market with a double move for two excelling defenders.
Everton’s John Stones and Paris Saint-Germain’s Marquinhos are the duo in question, in a move that could cost the defending champions in excess of £70m; as Chelsea failed with moves of £38m for Stones and around £30m for Marquinhos in the summer.
These arrivals would result in a major reshuffle of Chelsea’s back-line, with the aim that the Blues defence would be solidified for years to come. Stones and Marquinhos could feature in a young back-four completed by summer arrival Baba Rahman and Spanish full-back Cesar Azpilicueta.
Our punters aren’t convinced that Chelsea need both of these targets and would settle for just one of the pair.
