Bob Cass from the Mail on Sunday has sensational reports for punters in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening.
He claims that Chelsea are plotting a fresh £30 million offer for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney if he fails to agree a new contract at Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho attempted to sign the 28-year-old England international during the summer but according to today’s speculation he will try again at the end of the season if the striker stalls on a new deal.
United were due to begin talks with the former Everton forward in the next few weeks with his existing contract only having 18 months to run.
However there are new doubts about whether they can persuade him to stay with the Premier League champions given their decline under David Moyes.
United rejected any attempts by the Blues to sign Rooney during the summer but Mourinho is still seeking a top quality forward with Samuel Eto’o set to depart after just the single campaign at Stamford Bridge.
Unless the Red Devils can give assurances to Rooney then the issue may come to ahead in the summer with the club’s perceived lack of progress worrying those in the Rooney camp.
