Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have seen a resurgence of their interest of one of England’s brightest, as they hope they’ll finally be able to reach a deal this summer after failing with a move a year ago.
The Daily Express state Antonio Conte, who will take charge of Chelsea after Italy’s adventure in this summer’s European Championship, is ready to approved an improved offer of £40m to land Everton defender John Stones.
Chelsea were very public with their approaches to their fellow Premier League side last summer but failed to reach a deal with the Toffees, who were adamant their prized asset would not be leaving Goodison Park.
However, following a poor season for Everton, speculation regarding Stones future is mounting once again, although the Merseyside outfit are determined to adopt a similar stance to what they did last summer and are demanding at least £50m for the defender.
Such a move would make Stones the most expensive English player ever, smashing the record set by Raheem Sterling’s move from Liverpool to Manchester City last summer, and would put Stones amongst the most expensive defenders in football history.
Chelsea fans, is Stones really worth so much? Let us know in the comments below!
