Chelsea prepare £40 million bid for Spanish international

Diego CostaIt’s time for the monthly darts tournament in The Football Transfer Tavern and one of the teams hoping to bring home the silverware is made up of Chelsea supporters.

However before they can get started on the oche, reports from Mail Online have taken their attention as the paper reports that Jose Mourinho is preparing a £40 million deal to sign Diego Costa in the summer.

It’s well known that the Blues manager is on the lookout for a new forward following a mediocre return from his current three strikers this season.

The Atletico Madrid man has been in outstanding goal-scoring form this term, helping to take Diego Simeone’s side to the top of the La Liga table.

Costa, 25, is set to star for Spain at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil and some good performances could see him transfer fee dramatically increasing.

Therefore Mourinho wants to land his prime transfer target with Blues scouts in attendance as Atletico beat Granada last night, thanks to another strike from Costa.

Today’s speculation indicates that Atletico want to include stunning young keeper Thibaut Courtois, who has spent the last three season on loan from Stamford Bridge, at the Vicente Calderon.

Chelsea want to keep hold of the Belgian international but that could clearly delay negotiations with Mourinho in a rush to complete the deal before the World Cup.

We would love to see Diego Costa in the Premier League for the start of next season but can you see it happening? Let us know your thoughts below.
