Chelsea Preparing £50M Bid … For Cesc

So far 2011 has shown us that Roman Abramovich has become bored of yachts, and generally being horrifically rich and feels its times to lavish more players upon adoring Chelsea fans, and reports this week suggest that not content with spending £50million on one Spanish superstar, he would prefer to spend £100million on two, the second quite amazingly being Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas.

Fabregas started his footballing career in the Barcelona youth setup, being Catalan himself he had, and still has a deep love for the club, however in 2003 (aged just 16) when it became clear that opportunities to break into the first team squad were limited, he decided to move to Arsenal.

He became part of the first team picture during the 2004/2005 season after injuries affected the Gooners midfield and he never looked back, the following season he established himself as a member of the first 11.  Fabregas eventually became club captain in 2008 by which time he was arguably their most important player.

It seems since Fabregas has shown that he has not only fulfilled his potential but now appears to be a far better player than anyone first thought, he has been linked with moves back to Barcelona.

He has never really denied these links however his commitment to Arsenal has been admirable and he has on numerous occasions stated that he owes so much to the club, Arsene Wenger and the fans.  It seems to be a fact though that at some point he will return to his home City, and it would seem reasonable that he would want to spend the prime part of his career there, well at 23 years of age I fear for Arsenal fans that his prime is now upon us!

Although he was at one time linked to Real Madrid (Barcelona’s biggest rivals) it seemed inconceivable that Fabregas would quit Arsenal for anyone but his home team.  It now appears though that Chelsea and Roman Abramovich have decided they want Fabregas to be part of the new look Chelsea side next season, and in this mornings press it appears that Real Madrid are trying to set up a first refusal deal with the North London club.

Personally I think Fabregas is a fine player and would get into pretty much every team in the world.  At Chelsea he would undoutbedly link up well with Torres and having Essien and Ramires behind him he could be devastating.  He would definitely be an asset to Chelsea, however I cannot help but think it seems unlikely.

Six months ago the idea of Torres moving to Chelsea was pretty far fetched, he seemed to be Liverpool through and through, but there was always that doubt.  With Fabregas however I see a player married to Barcelona having a love affair with Arsenal, to see him playing for any club other than those two is a crazy notion, but football is a crazy game and who knows whether it could happen?

If Barcelona move for Fabregas this Summer and meet the price that Arsenal put on his head I think he will leave.  In many ways a bidding war between Madrid, Chelsea and Barcelona would be good for the Gunners bank balance, but ultimately I don’t see ‘Fabs’ moving to either of the other two.  He is a fine footballer who would light up any team, but he has only two teams in his heart.  It is a matter of time before he moves to Catalonia but a move somewhere else? ‘Mai’ ……..that was ‘never’ in Catalan.
