Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are brushing up on their Italian ahead of the reign of Antonio Conte and it seems the Italy coach is looking to raid Serie A for talent.
With pretty much every quality player in Italy being linked with a transfer to Stamford Bridge this summer, Italian publication Il Tempo have thrown a new hat in the ring by stating the Blues are preparing a move for Roma defender Kostas Manolas.
Chelsea undoubtably need a defensive reshuffle this summer, with John Terry set to be brushed aside, and a move for one-time Arsenal target Manolas would certainly shore-up the defence, although he wouldn’t catch the attention like a big move for John Stones or Raphael Varane would.
Perhaps Chelsea are adjusting their targets to player’s who’d be happy to not play in the Champions League but even Manolas may reject the Blues for that very reason, as Roma look set to qualify for Europe’s elite competition courtesy of a third-placed Serie A finish.
At 24, Manolas could improve the Chelsea defence for years to come but our landlord isn’t convinced by this story.
Chelsea fans, would Manolas be a good enough addition? Let us know in the comments below!
