Chelsea ready £40m bid for Premier League sensation

stonesChelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern were given a lock-in last night as they drank to commiserate another defeat, which was amazingly the ninth of their season so far.

The Daily Express state that Chelsea are ready to make a £40m bid to finally land Everton defender John Stones, who has been a prime target for the Blues since the summer.

Jose Mourinho’s side are in major need of alterations in January as they sit just one point above the relegation zone after 16 games played, already finding themselves 14 points adrift of the top-four.

It’s reported that Roman Abramovich supports Mourinho’s chase for Stones and the club hope another large bid will put pressure upon Everton, allowing the 21-year-old England international to move to Stamford Bridge.

However, Stones may elect to remain at Goodison Park as the Toffees are just six points off the top four and have a better chance of securing European football next season.

Chelsea may have to pay £45m for the youngster, who is also being tracked by Manchester United.
