Always going to be an interesting day in the Football Transfer Tavern when the Sunday Express duo John Richardson and Colin Mafham rock up.
John and Colin beckon over the Chelsea and Manchester United fans to the jukebox, but they aren’t interested and carry on drinking, eating and playing pool.
This prompts John to jump up on a bar stool and announce that he and Colin have an update on the Wayne Rooney saga.
Now he has everyones’ attention.
The punters scuttle over, hold their breath and wait for John and Colin to deliver the news they have on Rooney.
Firstly, John tells everyone that Jose Mourinho started his pursuit of the England international way back in April, when he was Real Madrid manager.
A few people roll their eyes at Mourinho’s clear lack of respect for transfer rules and regulations.
Anyway, Colin then tops John’s information with the news that the Chelsea manager has pleaded with David Moyes to let Rooney go and is readying a third bid that will be in the region of £40 million.
“Give us Mata and you’ve got a deal” shouts out a rather inebriated United fan from the back, which brings a few tuts from the Chelsea contingency.
With the transfer window close to closing, I don’t think this will be the last time we hear Wayne Rooney’s name in the tavern.
Will Chelsea make this third bid or will they land Anzhi Makhachkala pair Samuel Eto’o and Willian instead? Let us know your thoughts below.
