Today’s copy of the Daily Mail has clearly been left on the bar by a passing punter as I am collecting empty glasses.
I notice the latest reports surrounding one of England’s finest young prospects on the back page.
The paper reports that Chelsea are planning to bid for Southampton’s Luke Shaw as they seek a long-term replacement for Ashley Cole at Stamford Bridge.
The England centurion is approaching the twilight of his career and Jose Mourinho is already searching for a successor to the 33-year-old.
Shaw has now been targeted by the former Real Madrid boss after he established himself as one of most impressive left sided defenders at the age of just 18.
The England Under-21 international has won a first team berth in Mauricio Pochettino’s impressive team at St. Mary’s and is tipped for a massive future in the game.
He remains a target for Manchester United boss David Moyes if he fails land Leighton Baines, but now the SW6 club could make their move for the Saints star.
The young full back has admitted that he is a boyhood fan of the Blues and possible switch to Stamford Bridge could prove to difficult to resist.
Southampton are unlikely to let him leave for anything under £20 million and he only recently signed a five-year deal at St. Mary’s.
Despite this, it will be interesting if a higher offer comes in from Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.
Is there any hint of truth in the reports that Chelsea are primed to move for Shaw? Let us know your thoughts below.
