The future of Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana is the topic of discussion in the Football Transfer Tavern after reports emerged that Chelsea were stepping up their interest in the England international.
The 25-year-old has been one of the performers of the Premier League this season and his fine performances were rewarded with a call-up to Roy Hodgson’s England squad.
This hasn’t gone unnoticed in the tavern and it comes as no surprise to see the big clubs circling over ahead with Manchester United boss David Moyes thought to be a keen admirer.
The Daily Star suggests that the Red Devils will have to defeat strong competition from Jose Mourinho as he seeks to freshen up his side in the summer.
While the Saints will be very reluctant to lose Lallana, who only signed a five-year deal last year, owner Katharina Liebherr could cash-in as she looks to raise funds for the summer transfer market.
United are unlikely to be able to offer Lallana Champions League football and this could make the Blues front-runners for his signature.
