There are frustrated faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern at the latest news from the Daily Mail who claim that Chelsea have seen a bid for Napoli’s Edinson Cavani rejected again.
The Blues are reported to have offered not only £40 million – a huge amount of money by anyone’s standards, but also talented goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois who has been on loan at Atletico Madrid this season. As one of our punters puts it here in the tavern, they are not that sad the offer was rejected and given the talent of the young stopper to offer him on anything other than a loan basis would be a grave mistake on Chelsea’s part.
The club are thought to be readying another offer to present to the Serie A side this week and are determined to land the number one target on Jose Mourinho’s hitlist. Cavani of course has a £53 million release clause and it is thought that Napoli now managed by Rafael Benitez, will not accept any less than that plus a host of bonuses and indeed Courtois if he is on offer.
