It’s a transfer rumour that won’t go away in the Football Transfer Tavern.
The Express once again claim that Chelsea have contacted Monaco about a possible January move for Radamel Falcao, despite a reported £85 million price tag.
As we know in the tavern, Monaco continue to insist that Falcao, who only moved to the Ligue 1 club in the summer, is not going anyway but intriguing French reports now indicate that all is not well behind the scenes.
The Colombian striker’s relationship with manager Claudio Ranieri is reportedly strained and he was annoyed to be substituted in the 63rd minute against Nantes in November while he is frustrated with his wages that are half what he expected.
And that together with Russian owner Dmitry Rybolovlev’s concerns about Financial Fair Play, plus possible tax issues for the Principality club, gives slight hope to Blues fans in the bar that Jose Mourinho could land the former Atletico Madrid star in January.
It won’t be easy for Mourinho with interest likely from Barcelona and Real Madrid but the paper today suggests that Falcao’s agent Jorge Mendes, will try his best to link him up with another client of his, Jose Mourinho.
The issues of a possible enormous £85 million asking price will be quite a sticking point in any possible transfer, despite indications that the Blues could include either Fernando Torres or Demba Ba in part exchange.
But if Falcao’s unhappiness continues in the next few weeks, that could open further room for negotiation. Given the circumstances, any hopes of the 27-year-old pulling on a Chelsea jersey this term looks to be a pipe-dream, although a summer move certainly cannot be entirely ruled out.
