The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted at how well their season is going…
The Blues are currently sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League, and the majority of the punters in the Transfer Tavern think that their position is unlikely to change for the rest of the season.
With clear daylight between the Blues and the closest side below them, with 8 points separating them from 2nd place Tottenham, Antonio Conte’s first season in the Premier League has been nothing short of a revolution at Stamford Bride.
It would appear as though the Chelsea brass is as delighted as the Blues in the Transfer Tavern with the results too, with Tutto Mercato Web reporting that Conte and Chelsea have come to an agreement that will see Conte’s contract extended until 2020.
A few of the cynics in the Transfer Tavern can’t help but think that this decision is an example of jumping the gun by Chelsea, though, considering that Roman Abramovich rarely wastes any time in losing faith in the man at the helm of his club.
If you’ll remember, Jose Mourinho was given a new contract at Stamford Bridge and was unceremoniously dumped just a few months later. It seems as though contracts are beginning to mean very little in football, and our landlord thinks that this extension has more to do with Chelsea wanting to cover their own backs, rather than looking to give Conte a reward.
Conte certainly deserves praise for his fine start, though, with Chelsea flying in the Premier League.
