Chelsea reportedly close to sealing important summer deal

It has been a very long summer so far for the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern…

Whilst sides around them like Man City and Man Utd have already invested in their playing squad, it has remained decidedly quiet at Stamford Bridge, with a couple of departures the only confirmed deals so far at the club.

However, that is looking set to change soon, with RMC Sport journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi revealing on Twitter that Chelsea are finally closing in on their first major deal of the summer. Revealed in French, Bouhafsi’s Tweets state that Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle with Monaco over a deal for Tiemoue Bakayoko, with a €40 million price tag reportedly agreed upon. Significantly, Bouhafsi also notes that the Blues have held advanced talks with the player – seemingly suggesting that a deal is edging ever closer.

At last, the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have something to celebrate, with this deal finally beginning to look like it might actually happen this summer.

Bakayoko, of course, enjoyed a stellar campaign last year, becoming a vital component within the stellar midfield of Monaco, who heroicly won the Ligue 1 title last season. Impressing both domestically and in Europe, our landlord is confident that he will be a real star in the Premier League.

He will likely fit in alongside N’Golo Kante, adding a reliable, aggressive, technical hand alongside the defensive, hard-working Frenchman. With the pair likely to become the go-to duo for the French national side going forward, our landlord thinks that this is a match made in heaven.
