The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a few new defenders to sign for the club this summer…
What they aren’t expecting, though, is for the Blues to look towards their Premier League rivals – though it seems as though that could be the case. According to the Mirror, Chelsea are contemplating making a move for Tottenham defender Kyle Walker, who earns £70,000-per-week, with the Englishman reportedly having had a bust-up with manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Walker is, of course, one of the Premier League’s and, significantly England’s, best defenders. Having made a name for himself at White Hart Lane, the defender has really improved over the last few years under the tutelage of Mauricio Pochettino.
From Chelsea’s perspective, a move for Walker does make sense given how impressive he is going forward. Chelsea’s system dictates the need for an offensive defender, and whilst Walker isn’t the best when it comes to the defensive side of the game, going forward he is very good indeed – and Chelsea have proven with Victor Moses this season that you don’t need to be strong at the back to play the role well.
That being said, the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern aren’t sure that they can learn to love a player that has made their name at Tottenham – so this deal would certainly be a divisive one.
