Chelsea reportedly keen on £17m-rated midfielder amid uncertainty at Stamford Bridge

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their side to invest heavily this summer…

Though the Blues impressed last season, there is a genuine fear amongst supporters of a repeat of the 2015/16 season. In that instance, Chelsea walked to a Premier League title win, before failing to recruit efficiently in the summer and subsequently slipping to 10th place in the English top flight.

A repeat of that situation must be avoided at all costs, but so far, the Blues have done very little to suggest to supporters that they are looking to improve the side this summer.

That could be changing going forward, though, with Sky Sports News reporting on Twitter that the Blues have joined the race for Arsenal ace Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.

Whilst many supporters in the Transfer Tavern like the idea of Chamberlain moving to Stamford Bridge, there are a select group of fans that fear this deal may be chalked down as a panic buy if Chelsea follow up on their supposed interest. He isn’t exactly a starter at the Emirates, and with Chelsea still yet to sign anyone this season, Abramovich could be looking to sign him just to prove that the Blues are looking to invest this summer.

There has, of course, been uncertainty at Stamford Bridge in recent weeks surrounding the future of Antonio Conte, so that would align with that line of thinking.

That being said, our landlord isn’t so sure. He thinks that Chamberlain, who is rated at £17m by Transfer Markt, is one of the Premier League’s better young English players, and he thinks that his versatility could prove very attractive to Antonio Conte.

Certainly, this deal remains some way off – if it even happens – but it is certainly worth noting for Chelsea fans.
