Following recent confirmation of Asmir Begovic’s impending switch to Bournemouth, the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been wondering how he is going to be replaced…
Of course, the backup goalkeeper is a crucial member of the matchday squad, and the Blues cannot rely on an aged Eduardo to plug that gap. Luckily for the Blues in the pub, though, it seems as though Antonio Conte is looking to move quickly to solve the issue.
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are considering a move for Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli, with the Blues having already enquired about his availability. It is not known whether the goalkeeper himself would be interested in a move, but it is noted that the offer of increased wages at Stamford Bridge may be able to tempt him.
A commanding goalkeeper, Bettinelli has impressed in recent years, and he would certainly be an excellent option for the Blues. A huge presence between the sticks, standing at a huge 6ft4, he is certainly an intimidating sight for incoming attackers.
A particularly impressive shot-stopper, there is no doubting that he would do a job for the club – but it is now up to Conte and company to try and convince him, and indeed Fulham, to make the move.
