The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are concerned at the lack of depth available to Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge…
It was a tough summer for the Blues, with no shortage of rejections, and now Conte is feeling the effects.
Though the likes of Danny Drinkwater and Davide Zappacosta came in as the window came to a close, Conte is still very short in several areas, most notably in the attack.
With Alvaro Morata now injured, Conte has just one forward to choose from in Michy Batshuayi, and that’s a big problem given how many fixtures the Blues have coming over the next few weeks and months.
This is, seemingly, something that Conte is looking to change, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Blues are looking to recruit more in the attack in January. According to the Daily Mail, Red Star Belgrade striker Richmond Boakye is to be watched by Chelsea scouts against Arsenal – with the Blues potentially keen to bring him in as a depth option. A number of other clubs, such as Celtic and Swansea, are also touted as having an interest.
Though not well known in England, Boakye’s reputation has been steadily growing lately – he scored 12 league goals last season and has already picked up 3 this season.
Chelsea’s options are very lacklustre in this role, and so any incoming player would be an improvement. Whether he’s the best option remains to be seen, but it’s safe to say that the Chelsea fans in the pub will have their eyes on the big screen on Thursday evening.
He doesn’t look good enough to start each week, but with Michy Batshuayi and Alvaro Morata likely to be ahead of him in the pecking order if he were to make the move, he may still be able to provide something.
His goalscoring has improved lately, so he knows where the net is. He could be a decent choice.
