The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have high hopes for young American defender Matt Miazga…
Having moved to Stamford Bridge, the 21-year-old spent last season on loan with Vitesse Arnhem, and despite his best efforts, it appears as though another loan is forthcoming.
According to Goal, the Blues are reportedly looking to secure a deal for the defender this summer – with the club expected to send him to a club within Europe’s top five leaves. Indeed, after an impressive display in the Netherlands, the only way for Miazga is up.
When he signed a couple of years ago, the deal did seem like a strange one. Seemingly out of nowhere, the American was thrust into the fold at Stamford Bridge, and unlike most players, he wasn’t sent out on loan straight away.
Instead, he was utilised in a bit-part role, making a couple of appearances for the Blues. However, with the defender clearly not good enough for a regular role – a loan move did make sense.
He is certainly a player on the up, and given the vast quantity of top players coming from America, the Blues did well to pick him up. Our landlord thinks that another year or 2 on loan and he could be ready to make an impact.
