It was an opening day to forget for the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern…
The Blues looked very poor against Burnley, and whilst the season is still very young, supporters are not feeling very optimistic – particularly ahead of a trip to Tottenham next weekend.
However, there is, at least, something to be happy about if you’re a Chelsea fan – with the Evening Standard reporting that the Blues are growing more and more confident of landing a deal for Arsenal man Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
It is said that talks are underway between the two clubs, and Chelsea are said to have received ‘sufficient encouragement’ as they look to seal a deal for the Englishman.
A versatile midfielder, the Ox – as he is known – is able to play in a number of positions, and that is likely what is attracting Antonio Conte to him.
He impressed against the Blues for Arsenal in the Community Shield, giving the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern encouragement that he could be the perfect addition at Stamford Bridge.
Whether he would be a starter remains to be seen, but as Chelsea look to secure more depth, it appears as though a move is beginning to edge closer.
Chelsea aren’t exactly blessed with depth, and so a versatile option like Oxlade-Chamberlain does make sense.
Antonio Conte worked his magic with Victor Moses last season, turning a player that many deemed not good enough into a worthy Premier League winner, and he could do the same with the Englishman.
He could find a role in a number of positions for the Blues, and so this move makes a lot of sense.
