Chelsea reportedly shut down in pursuit of 22-year-old by club president

Though victory against Tottenham on Sunday has perked up their spirits, the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern think that things are far from perfect at Chelsea…

In truth, Chelsea were very lucky to walk away with the three points, and whilst Antonio Conte is a top manager, he can’t be expected to pull out miracles like that all season long.

With just a few days to go until the window closes, it is imperative that Chelsea recruit a few more players, with a general lack of depth likely to cost the club if they don’t.

However, one player that doesn’t look likely to move to Stamford Bridge is Marcos Llorente, who Diario Gol are reporting is interesting Chelsea. It is said that the Blues have been shut down in their quest to sign the midfielder by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.

Despite not being a regular for Los Blancos, the club clearly still rate him highly, and so they don’t want to let him go, particularly for a low price.

A great passer and tackler, Llorente is a fantastic all-round midfielder – though given the depth available at Real Madrid, he isn’t likely to be a starter anytime soon. Perhaps the prospect of regular game time at Chelsea could tempt him.

Landlord’s Verdict

At 22-years-old, Llorente needs to be playing regularly, and the fact of the matter is that that simply won’t happen if he stays at Real Madrid. He has reportedly been promised game time this year, but that’s unlikely to come in any of Real Madrid’s more important games.

Chelsea do need depth in the middle of the park, and so Llorente in that sense is a good option. However, with just a few days to go until the window closes, this looks like a non-starter.
