Serie A outfit Sassuolo are reportedly in talks with Chelsea over a loan move for wing-back Kenedy, according to Sky Sports Italia via Football Italia.
The Brazilian had previously been linked with a move to Reading, though nothing materialised.
Kenedy spent the last 18 months on loan at Newcastle United, scoring once and assisting one in 28 appearances for the Magpies last term.
With Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso both seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, the 23-year-old is set to see a lack of game time in west London if he remains at the club this season.
Indeed, having joined the Blues from Brazilian outfit Fluminense for a reported £7m back in 2015, Kenedy has only made 27 senior appearances for the club, spending a total of two years out on loan at Watford and Newcastle respectively.
The Brazilian featured for Chelsea throughout pre-season, but hasn’t played a minute for the Blues in their opening three Premier League games so far, and could be left out of the club’s Champions League squad due to the limit on foreign players allowed by each side in the competition.
From Sassuolo’s perspective, acquiring Kenedy this season would be seen as a huge coup considering the lack of options the club have available to them on the left-hand side. First-choice left-back Rogerio is currently out injured, so they need reinforcements in that area of the pitch.
Kenedy is also adept to playing in a more advanced position on the wing, so would bring versatility to the Italians’ squad. It’s obvious that his career at Chelsea isn’t progressing, so a temporary move to the Serie A seems like the best scenario for both club and player.
