Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are debating what move their club will make next, having seen a large bid rejected.
Sky Sports state Antonio Conte’s new club have had a bid of £32m for Portuguese midfielder Andre Gomes rejected by his current club Valencia, leaving the Blues mulling over whether to place a new bid.
Conte is keen to revitalise the squad he inherited from last season’s horrendous campaign, which saw the defending Premier League champions miss out on European football altogether, and the midfield is an area of the squad which needs major improvements.
However, Chelsea may find it difficult to add Andre Gomes to their ranks as he only signed a new deal with the Spanish side last summer, which runs until 2020, so Conte may have to rethink his transfer strategy.
Gomes, currently on duty with a Portugal side that surprisingly drew their opening Euro 2016 match with Iceland, played 41 times for Valencia in all competitions last term, contributing four goals and notching seven assists.
