Chelsea seeking Drinkwater alternatives, could look towards 27-year-old Premier League man

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are beginning to get frustrated with their side’s lack of transfer activity…

The Blues’ victory over Tottenham on Sunday has quelled immediate fears, with Chelsea looking good against their London rivals, but the problems within their squad are still very much present.

Indeed, a lack of activity over the last few weeks has left Chelsea in a very precarious position, with Antonio Conte’s options still very limited as the end of the window edges closer.

However, it doesn’t appear as though the transfer disappointment has been through a lack of trying – with the Daily Mail reporting that the Blues are struggling to land key target Danny Drinkwater, with Leicester City hesitant to allow him to leave for less than £40 million despite Chelsea’s interest.

Significantly, though, it is noted that Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye is now being considered as an alternative, as the Blues look to bulk out their midfield. Once again, Everton are unlikely to want to sell, but a big offer from the Blues could be enough to tempt them.

Gueye was the surprise package in the Premier League last term, with the midfielder drawing comparisons with N’Golo Kante for his fantastic defensive work in the heart of the midfield.

Landlord’s Verdict

Gueye would be a great signing. He was fantastic for the Toffees last term, and at 27-years-old, he is in the prime of his career.

He has become key to everything that Everton do, and so he’ll be tough to land, but the role that he would play at Chelsea would be massive.

Much like Kante, he’s a strong tackler and is fantastic at breaking up play. Against bigger sides, he could line up alongside the Frenchman and form a fantastic midfield – whilst he could also substitute in for him when needed too.
