There are some interested faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern as the Daily Mail note that Chelsea have a young English star on their radar as January approaches.
As one of our punters quips, it is rather apt that we are taking about English players when we have just been bought some rather delicious looking full English breakfasts (complete with black pudding and everything – no expense is spared here in the tavern!)
Jose Mourinho’s club have reportedly been tracking Ross Barkley, who at 19-years-old, is one of the rising stars of the English game.
As one of our punters observes – he could well be the player Mourinho was talking about after the close of the transfer window. The Special One had noted that there was a young star he had his eye on and claimed: “I like a young player, a young English player.
“The market is closed but I asked a question to position myself to see where he was. We are speaking about a very young player but his price was like he has 50 caps when he had none.
“The price for English players is very high, the market is very difficult.”
Chelsea even sent a senior scout to Goodison Park to watch Barkley in action up close in the Everton versus Chelsea clash earlier this evening – although quite if Roberto Martinez would be willing to sell another one of his players remains to be seen.
A brilliant point is then made by our barmaid as she pours a pint of beer. Chelsea do have a habit of buying young players and not exactly developing them the way they really should – meaning that Barkley should have a long think before potentially joining the Blues!
Do Chelsea stand a chance of landing Ross Barkley in January? Is he the player Mourinho has been referring to? Let us know your thoughts below.
