Shock is on the faces of punters here in the Football Transfer Tavern after the latest claim from the Daily Mail.
The publication have claimed that Chelsea will demand an asking price of at least £35 million for Romelu Lukaku, a shocking amount considering Jose Mourinho clearly does not rate the forward.
As our punters note, after yet another impressive display for the Belgian forward against Arsenal, he has now netted 13 times this season, which is one more goal than both Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o combined.
Lukaku is willing to seek a move away from Stamford Bridge should first team opportunities not come his way, and Mourinho is fully aware that the cash from any sale could be used to buy a forward of his choice.
Quite if Everton or indeed Tottenham Hotspur could afford the £35 million remains to be seen, and despite his form and goals, our regulars are questioning if the player is actually worth that much.
One of our regulars notes over a pint that a good World Cup can do wonders for a player’s market value and we think that this could well be the case for the Belgian international.
