Chelsea set to fall short in deadline day pursuit of £40m-rated striker

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern weren’t expecting much from transfer deadline day…

After all, the Blues are flying in the Premier League – and Antonio Conte’s squad looks well drilled and deep enough to cover them for at least the rest of the season.

It came as a surprise, then, when reports permeating from the Telegraph linked the Blues with a huge deadline day deal – a reported move for £40m-rated Celtic forward Moussa Dembélé.

A breakout star in Scotland this season, French forwardDembélé has been on fire for Celtic so far – having picked up 17 goals in all competitions.

Expectedly, the reports delighted the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, with many touting him as the perfect heir to Diego Costa in the Chelsea first team.

However, their mood has come crashing down today as per reports from the Daily Record, with the publication noting that Celtic are set to reject any and all moves for the striker today.

Sources close to the club have revealed to the Daily Record that the Celtic brass are confident that he won’t be going anywhere, with the forward absolutely vital to proceedings at Celtic Park.

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that the Blues will still go in for the striker, but the chances of him coming to Stamford Bridge are looking increasingly unlikely.

With Michy Batshuayi and Diego Costa set to stay this month, our landlord doesn’t think a striker is a priority for Conte, though.
