The Daily Mirror has a claim that will not go down well with Liverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho could well be set to pounce for long-term Reds transfer target Tiago Ilori.
The Sporting Lisbon defender has been on the radar of Brendan Rodgers for some time now and it seems that Mourinho could well be set to swoop for the £8.5 million Portuguese talent.
Liverpool have already seen two bids for the defender rejected and it will not please Rodgers that his former mentor is set to steal a target out from under him.
Given the choice, we can understand why the player would prefer a link up with Mourinho and Chelsea who are of course playing Champions League football and also have pots of cash to boot.
Mourinho is keen to land another defender before the start of the season, fully aware that John Terry is not what he once was and that David Luiz is not really on his list for the starting eleven.
Should a bid Mourinho deems suitable come in for the Brazilian, the Special One will reportedly be willing to see Luiz leave the club before the start of the season.
