Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern have maintained all summer long that their side need to bring in a new central defender before the transfer window closes in two weeks time – and they might be getting their wish.
With John Terry likely in his final year with The Blues and Gary Cahill largely inconsistent at the back, the need for a new defender at Chelsea is clear for all to see.
A number of defensive stalwarts have been linked with the club over the summer, but one target in particular has been continuously been touted with a move to London over the last few weeks – Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
Chelsea have reportedly had a £42 million bid for the defender rejected over the last few weeks, but Antonio Conte is seemingly refusing to give up on the defender.
In an exclusive report by Calico Marcato, they suggest that Chelsea will put in a further bid of around £48 million for Koulibaly, as Conte looks to wrap up a deal for the talented defender.
Our landlord thinks that the bid may well be enough to prize the defender away from Naples, with the move getting perilously close to world-record fee territory.
What do you think Chelsea fans? Are you keen to get Koulibaly to London or could a cheaper defender be found elsewhere?
