Chelsea set to move for £19.8m-rated midfielder, bid reportedly ‘on the way’

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are still hoping for more signings over the next few weeks…

It has been a relatively quiet few weeks for Chelsea on the transfer front, with the Blues failing to recruit sufficiently, though it does seem as though there is work ongoing behind the scenes.

Still, with just a few weeks to go until the transfer window slams shut, Chelsea need to move quickly, and according to Dean Jones of the Bleacher Report, they are keen to do just that.

Jones is reporting that a Chelsea bid for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is on the way, with the Blues very keen to land the Englishman. Whilst talks are reportedly expected with his club over a new deal, Chelsea’s do not appear to be getting deterred.

Clearly a top target, the Ox – as he is known – has emerged as one of Chelsea’s primary transfer targets, and with good reason. He has enjoyed a fantastic start to the Premier League season, and given that he is able to play in a number of positions, he would be a real option for Antonio Conte this term.

Still, Arsenal appear hesitant to sell, and so this will be no easy feat for Antonio Conte and the Chelsea brass.

Landlord’s Verdict

It has been a tough summer for Chelsea, but they aren’t giving up anytime soon. They clearly want to land the Ox, who is rated at £19.8 million by Transfer Markt, and whilst Arsenal want to keep him, their continued interest suggests that they believe a deal can be done.

With just a few weeks to go, though, the Blues need to start making moves and stop considering them, as they cannot afford to end the summer without a few more acquisitions.

There’s still enough time, but they can’t mess around.
