Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is set to delight the Transfer Tavern once again by raiding his former club Porto for the services of highly rated striker Jackson Martinez, according to the Metro.
Mourinho was initially desperate to bring England striker Wayne Rooney to West London with two bids submitted over the course of the last month.
However, Manchester United boss David Moyes has made it very clear that he will not be selling one of his better players and especially not to a title rival such as Chelsea.
Rooney has admitted he wants to leave Old Trafford which is the one glimmer of hope for Mourinho at present, but the England striker looks set to stay in the North West.
The Blues boss does have alternatives to solve his striker problem with Porto hitman Martinez at the top of the list after notching an impressive 34 goals for the Portuguese club last season.
Mourinho’s good relationship with his former club, who whom he won the Champions League, could be invaluable in the deal as Chelsea want the player for less than his buy-out clause of £35million.
Real Madrid, Barcelona and Tottenham have all shown an interest in the Colombian forward during the summer, but Porto are yet to receive any bids for the 26 year old.
Anzhi striker Samuel Eto’o has also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, but the astronomical wages of that deal has left Chelsea with no alternative but to progress with the Martinez interest.
Rooney remains the number one target but as time is running out and the season starts today, Mourinho looks set to make his move for Martinez.
